Welcome to the 2008 Randalstown Road Race and Fun Run!
Randalstown staged its first ever 10k and 3k fun run on Sunday 25 June 2006. The 3K proved popular for families and adults with a great turn out on the day. The 10K attracted some of the best male and female athletes in Northern Ireland and included past master Greg Hannon and serial marathon runner Peter Ferris.
The race is on again, this time set for Sunday 15 June 2008.
Let's see if anyone can beat the course records set in 2006 by Joe McAllister from St Malachys with a time of 31 minutes 10 seconds.
In 2006, the Ladies race was won by Jill Shannon of Lagan Valley with a time of 35 minutes 4 seconds. The Connollys Supervalu Team prize and perpetual trophy was won in 2006 by Matt Wray, Ian Barrett and Jarlath Falls from Antrim and Ballymena AC.
In 2007, numbers were up for the second running of this race from 140 in 2006 to around 145. Just over 51% of the runners on the day were from athletic clubs. Paul Rowan from Willowfield Harriers was the overall winner in 2007, with second place going to Jarlath Falls from Ballymena and Antrim Athletic Club. Dean Fisher, also from Willowfield Harriers won third place. Suzanne McCormick from Lagan Valley was the overall female winner in 2007, with second place going to Louise McClean from Beechmount Harriers. Pauline Thom, from Ballymena and Antrim Athletic Club won third place.
The 2008 Randalstown Super Value 10K Road Race and 3K Fun Run was a tremendous success with numbers up significantly from 2007 for both the 10K and the 3K. The organisers, the Randalstown Running Club had over 170 entries for the 10K and over 120 entries for the 3K run.
The participation rate of over 40% from athletic and running clubs shows that this is an event that is hotly anticipated by the running clubs across Northern Ireland and beyond.
